GETTYSBURG, PA – The Johns Hopkins wrestling team got a third period pin from freshman 285
Jacob Pomykata to score a 20-16 come-from-behind win over host Gettysburg Friday evening in Bream Gym. The win improves the Blue Jays' record to 6-7 overall and 1-2 in the Centennial Conference, while the Bullets slip to 2-7 overall and 1-4 in the Centennial
Â
Where the Match Was Won
In a back-and-forth match that saw both teams win five individual bouts, the Blue Jays found themselves on the wrong end of a 16-14 score as Pomykata stepped to the mat to take on Phil Nave. Needing just a win by decision to seal the victory for the Blue Jays, Pomykata was up 5-1 entering the third period and 6-2 late in the period when he scored a takedown and quickly put Nave on his back before securing the fall at the 6:31 mark to lock up the win for the Blue Jays.

Two Decisions, Two Majors Help Fuel Victory
In addition to Pomykata's pin at 285, the Blue Jays got wins by decision at 125 and 165 and major decision victories at 149 and 174 to fuel the victory.
Â
Dhilan Patel staked the Blue Jays to an early 3-0 lead as he grabbed a 7-4 win at 125. He trailed 4-2 midway through the second period, but evened things at 4-4 entering the third and then used an escape and takedown to seal his victory.
Â
After dropping matches at 133 and 141 to fall behind 7-3, the Blue Jays evened things up at 7-7 after freshman
Connor Powell's 12-1 victory at 149. The teams split bouts at 157 and 165 with the Bullets grabbing a win at 157 before freshman
Jake Hoffmann's 4-1 win at 165 against tied the match (10-10). Hoffmann used a third-period takedown and a point of riding time to turn a 1-1 tie into the 4-1 victory.
Â
Senior
Joe Paul made it two major decisions on the night for the Blue Jays as he gave Hopkins at 14-10 lead with a 17-5 win over
Michael Daugherty. The lead was short-lived as the Bullets grabbed wins at 184 (5-3) and 197 (5-2) to grab the 16-14 lead entering the final bout at 285. Pomykata's pin just over six minutes later sealed Hopkins' 11
th win against Gettysburg in the last 14 meetings.

Notes of Interest
Paul's win is the 99
th of his career – he'll become just the third Johns Hopkins wrestler to reach the 100-win mark with one more victory. With two wins by major decision and one by fall, the Blue Jays now count 103 bonus point victories (30 major decisions / 13 technical falls / 61 pins) among their 184 total individuals wins this season
