SWARTHMORE, Pa.—Swarthmore College Field Hockey played its 2019 home opener on Tuesday night and made some strong defensive stands against the undefeated Stockton University Ospreys. The Garnet recorded five saves and battled with 11 Stockton corners in Tuesday's 2-0 loss.
Aron Lankford registered five saves in the outing for the Garnet. The visiting Ospreys potted their first goal midway through the second quarter and then tacked on another goal with just over four minutes to play in the fourth quarter.
Swarthmore matched Stockton with 15 shots and led in the shots on goal category 10-7. The Garnet got to the corner seven times in the game.
Marion Carr had four shots on goal and seven total strikes. Andie Tappenden added three on goal in quick succession, Samatha Meacock had a pair of shots on target and Samie Martin added one.
The Garnet (1-3) look to bounce back on the road on Sept. 18 at Cabrini University.
