Johns Hopkins Continues Incredible Run; Wins 12th Straight CC Title

GETTYSBURG, PA – The Johns Hopkins women's cross-country team ran away with its 12th straight Centennial Conference Championship, scoring 23 points to earn a 27-point victory over Dickinson on Saturday afternoon.

"Our conference championships really give us the opportunity to show what is most important to us, and today was no different," said head coach Bobby Van Allen. "It was an entire team effort well beyond the top-12 in both varsity races as our men and women in the open races also each won their respective divisions. The support, enthusiasm, and love for each was on prime display today and for that I'm most proud, and honored, to be a part of these moments. We are going to enjoy this one for a while, and then we'll get back to work next week as we prepare for back-to-back weekends of NCAA regionals and nationals."

Rebecca Grusby led the Blue Jays as they continued their historic run through the Centennial Conference. The senior finished the race in second place, running the course in 21:45.2. Therese Olshanski was six seconds behind Grusby, grabbing third place and her third-straight placement on the All-Centennial First Team. Isabel Cardi from Dickinson claimed the women's individual title in 21:16.7.

Kristin Meek, Ariel Keklak and Sam Levy packed together to grab fifth, sixth and seventh-place respectively. Meek finished the race in 22:05.3 with Keklak at 22:10.7. Levy grabbed seventh with a time of 22:22.1.

"Cardi took off from the start of the race and really put the pressure on us to get out hard as well," noted Van Allen. "I thought we really stuck to some strong pack running in these conditions and had some nice battles back and forth with fifth-ranked Dickinson. Early on Grusby and Olshanski went out and worked together to keep Cardi in their sights. But today belonged to her and I thought Grusby and Olshanski really pushed hard without having many others around them.  The rest of the girls really teamed up well and Meek had yet another career day as each race seems to be her best. Keklak closed well as Levy gave us five finishers in the top-seven of the race to help us earn our 12th team title."

All five runners earned All-Centennial First Team honors with their performances. Grusby, Olshanski and Levy are all three-time honorees, adding to a list of just 10 Blue Jays on the women's side to meet that mark. Keklak earned her second honor while it was Meek's first selection.

Johns Hopkins placed five more runners in the top-20 at the Championships. Katharine Priu and Arielle Summitt finished ninth and 10th respectively. Freshmen Stephanie Brown and Callie Jones were able to earn top-15 finishes in their first career Centennial Championships, finishing 12th and 14th. Allison Rosen joined the pair in the top-15, finishing just 1.7 seconds behind Jones to take 15th place.

Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, November 16 at the NCAA Mideast Regional in Bethlehem, PA. The race is slated for an 11:00 am start.
