The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins field hockey team used a pair of first-half goals to defeat visiting Ramapo in a game that was delayed nearly three hours due to lightning Friday night at Homewood Field.
Â
How it Happened
• Sophomore
Michaela Corvi gave the Blue Jays the early lead when she scored just 5:03 into the contest. Junior
Katie McErlean played a long ball up to Corvi, who dribbled past a defender, cut back and then back-handed a shot past Samantha Stolker from six yards out.
• Just over four minutes later, the Blue Jays took a two-goal lead with freshman
Abby Birk's first career goal. Off a penalty corner, McErlean dumped the ball down to sophomore
Val Henderson, who had her back to the goalie. She passed the ball to her left, where Birk one-timed it from four yards out.
• With 10:04 to play in the half, lightning halted play and the game was delayed for two hours and 47 minutes.
• Ramapo cut the lead in half when the Roadrunners capitalized on a penalty corner. Melissa Choka inserted the corner to Victoria Ewanis on the short side. She blasted a shot that Autumn Laird redirected just under the crossbar with 27:39 to play.
