Game Notes

  • Bobby Falese popped a two-run blast against Swarthmore to set the F&M program record for RBI in a season with 51. He passed Andy Myers' 49 RBI effort in 2002, after tying the record on Friday against Gettysburg.

          • Falese still ranks tops in the Centennial with his 51 RBI and tied for fourth in homers with nine.

  • Falese also broke the F&M record of total bases, besting Gary Kruger's 97 in 2006 with his homer against Swarthmore that had him finish the regular season with 101.

  • Spencer Berson has now reached base safely in 23 straight games, with two hits in every game last week to finish batting .381 for across four games.

          • Berson's stretch of reaching base via hit or walk in 31 of his last 32, and 34 of his 37 total games.

          • Even when he's not reaching base, Berson has been productive at the dish, hitting six sacrifice flies which ranks second in the Centennial. It's tied for the fifth-most in F&M history, and the most since Christopher Vincent hit eight in 2017.

  • He's no slouch in the field, either. Berson is one of just three players in the Centennial with 100+ total chances and a 1.000 fielding percentage.

  • Jakob Hoffman finished up a season-long hitting streak at 16 games, going hitless in the regular season finale against Swarthmore.

          • It's the longest hitting stretch for a Diplomat since Kelsey Launi went 14-straight games with a hit in 2019.

  • Dan Galef registered enough innings pitched through his last two starts, that he now leads the Centennial Conference in ERA with a miniscule 2.19 mark. His eight innings of scoreless pitching made it just a single run allowed in his last 28 innings (0.32 ERA).

          • Galef and the second-place finisher could be on a collision-course this Thursday in a crucial playoff matchup, as Joe Morrissey (2.35) could take the bump for Washington.

          • Galef and Morrissey have already squared off on April 19, as Galef tossed five innings of two-hit, one-run ball, while the Diplomats tagged Morrissey for five runs (three earned) in five innings.

  • AJ Desautels is ranked fourth in the conference in steals, swiping 18 bags this season. It's tied for the 13th-most in F&M history, and is the best mark since Aaron Gillette stole a record 30 bags in 2013.

  • Tommy Denlinger got bumped from the bottom of the lineup to the top in recent weeks, and for good reason. His .449 OBP has been setting the table for F&M, recently having his eight-game hitting streak snapped against Swarthmore.

        • Prior to his 0-4 outing against the Garnet, Denlinger was hitting .473 as the leadoff hitter in five games, working six walks at the top of the order.

  • Charlie Wright's complete game, 11-hit, two-run effort against Gettysburg was one-of-a-kind, currently in the record books as the lone Diplomat to allow double-digit hits while pitching the entire game.

          • Wright worked quickly against the Bullets, facing 38 batters but only throwing 2.76 pitches per batter.

  • Patrick Cettina had quite the week for the Diplomats, driving in nine runs in F&M's three victories. He knocked in two on the road against Gettysburg, four at home versus the Bullets, then three more in the first game against Swarthmore.

  • Will Samuel had his six-game hitting streak snapped against Swarthmore, but had hit in nine of his last ten entering the season finale.

  • Greg Nieskens twirled seven innings of four-hit baseball against Swarthmore to collect his sixth win of the season. It currently sits in a tie for tenth in the F&M record books.

  • F&M will be sad to see the month of April come to a close, putting together their best ever stretch under Ryan Horning in the fourth month of the year. Their .736 winning percentage (14-5) is the best under their skipper, topping a .714 (15-6) month back in 2015.

          • The team finished the month of March 9-9, but then rattled off winning streaks of six and five games to grab a seat at the top of the conference.

  • The Diplomats have been fantastic when their pitching holds together, now 16-3 this year when allowing five runs or less. On the flip side, F&M is 20-5 this year when scoring more than five runs.

  • F&M's 14-4 record is the best in 15 years, when the Diplomats finished 15-3 in conference play.

  • Washington hits the tournament for the first time since 2012 and just the second time in their history in the Centennial Conference. They're 2-4 all-time in the CC Championship, going 2-2 in 2012.
