GRANTHAM, Pa. – Senior Colin Devlin (Dresher, Pa./Upper Dublin) won a pair of matches to advance to the semifinals and keep his hopes of a national bid alive at the NCAA Division III Southeast Regional Championship hosted by Messiah College Friday.

Match Highlights

• Devlin cruised in his opening match, putting up a 12-2 major decision over Alex Winant from Washington and Lee University. The Gettysburg senior drew No. 2 seed and 2018 national qualifier Eric Hutchinson from York (Pa.) College in the quarterfinals and quickly established the upper-hand with a takedown and back points for a 4-0 lead in the opening period. Hutchinson picked up a penalty point in the second period and jumped in front 5-4 following a reversal and a near-fall. An escape by Devlin tied the contest 5-5 heading into the third. Devlin managed to slip Hutchinson's grasp with just under a minute left in the final period to jump back in front, though the Spartan grappler managed to get another penalty point due to stalling on the part of the Bullet grappler. Hutchinson's last-second takedown came after the final buzzer and the riding-time advantage point sealed the victory for Devlin.
• Martin will join his senior teammate on day two of the regional after ending his day with a victory at 157. The sophomore opened with a 41-second pin against James Maloy from King's (Pa.) College. He was upended by fall against top seed Dylan Van Sickell of Stevens Institute of Technology in his quarterfinal bout. Martin remained in the hunt for a national bid by pinning Elijah Martin in 31 seconds in his first consolation match.
• Four Bullets won one match apiece. Stein began his day with a 9-1 major decision over Kareem Chambers from Johns Hopkins University in the 133 prelims, while Loder laid down an 11-5 decision in the prelims at 184. Thompson won his regional opener by fall (1:06) against another Blue Jay grappler, but he suffered an injury in his match against top seed Troy Stanich of Stevens and was forced out of the tournament. Larson won his first consolation bout by pin-fall in the third period (5:43).

 
By the Numbers

• Gettysburg has advanced a wrestler to the regional semifinals in each of the last five seasons. A Bullet has qualified for nationals in each of the last four seasons.
• Devlin will meet Washington & Jefferson College's Michael Heinl in tomorrow's semifinal. The two had a memorable match up in last season's regional consolation final with Heinl pulling out an 11-9 win to finish third and advance to the national championship. If Devlin comes up short in the semis, he will need two wins in the consolation bracket to clinch a national bid. Devlin improved to 25-4 overall this season. He also upped his career record to 105-35.
• Martin will need to win three matches Saturday to earn a trip to the national stage. He is guaranteed of placing among the top eight for the first time in his career. The sophomore will face Colby Morris from Waynesburg University in the consolation quarterfinals. Martin improved to 27-15 this season and moved into second place on Gettysburg's single-season list for falls. He now has 18, which leaves him one shy of Lenny Ogozalek's single-season record.
• Thompson closes the season with a record of 31-17 with 12 pins. He'll head into his senior campaign next year with a career record of 82-43.
• In the team standings, Gettysburg sits 16th out of 20 teams.
