Hopkins Falls to #20 Gettysburg, 56-49

Hopkins Had Won Five Straight Games

The Basics 
• Score: JHU - 49, Gettysburg - 56
• Records: Johns Hopkins (13-3, 9-2 CC) • #20 Gettysburg (14-2, 11-0 CC)

• The Short Story: It a matchup between the top two teams in the Centennial Conference, it was #20 Gettysburg that came away with a 56-49 victory over the Johns Hopkins women's basketball team on Saturday afternoon at Goldfarb Gym.

How it Happened
• Hopkins took a quick 3-0 lead to open the quarter, but the Bullets went on a 16-3 run to take a 16-6 advantage. A three from Lillian Scott followed by a Lexie Scholtz jumper put an end to the first 10 minutes of play with Gettysburg holding a 16-11 lead.
• A three from Emma Dorshimer gave the visitors a nine-point lead, but a three from Scott and a jumper from Madison McGrath made it a four-point game at 24-20. With 1:49 remaining in the half, Diarra Oden hit a layup followed by another Scott shot from deep to cut the deficit to one, but an Ashley Gehrin jumper with 22 seconds remaining sent the team into the half with the Bullets holding a 28-25 lead.
• Scholtz opened the third with a three to tie the game at 28 and the senior followed with a layup to give the Blue Jays a two-point lead. Gettysburg responded with a 12-0 run to take a 40-30 lead with 3:54 remaining in the quarter. Hopkins outscored the Bullets, 6-2 in the quarter's final 2:22 to send the teams into the final quarter with the Bullets leading 42-37.
• Four straight points from Oden cut the Gettysburg lead to one at 44-43 with 6:25 remaining, but Meredith Brown made it a three-point game with two free throws at 6:05. Oden once again got the Blue Jays to within one with a layup at 5:39, but Brown's three-straight points made the score 49-45 with 4:36 remaining.
Rory Cole hit a layup to cut the Bullets lead in half with 1:27 remaining but Dorshimer all but sealed the win for the Bullets with a three with 29 seconds remaining. Scholtz hit a jumper with 19 seconds remaining to make it a three-point game, however, Gettysburg went 4-4 from the free throw line to seal the 56-49 victory.  

What it Means
• Gettysburg has won the last six meetings between the two teams, but Hopkins holds a 40-36 all-time record.

Inside the Box Score
• Scott led Hopkins with 19 points while Oden added 10.
• Cole grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds in the game while Scholtz finished with five.
• Brown and Gehrin both finished with 16 points for the Bullets.

Up Next
• The Blue Jays will take the court next on Tuesday, January 22 as Hopkins will travel to Carlisle, PA to take on Dickinson. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 pm.
