Rauhut's Brace Not Enough For The Garnet

Rauhut's Brace Not Enough For The Garnet

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The men's soccer team got outscored by Swarthmore 4-2 on Saturday afternoon at Gibbel Stadium.

The Eagles trailed by one shot in the first half, 5-4, but Swarthmore was able to put two in the net. The Garnet was held off until the 24th minute when the first goal was scored against JC. Wasting no time, Swarthmore made the score 2-0 in the 27th minute, and the Eagles could not tear past their defense.

Gavin Rauhut had enough in the 48th minute and volleyed the ball off his right boot from a free kick from Victor Vandenbroek, edging the score to 2-1. Not finished yet, Rauhut headed the ball into the net off a corner kick from Amo Mashigo to tie the game at twos in the 53rd minute.

Frustrated with an even score, Swarthmore knocked their third goal in during the 59th minute. The Garnet was able to fire off one more goal in the 80th minute closing the scoring card 4-2.

Devon Angermeier finished with three saves on the day.

The Eagles are on the road Tuesday, September 13, facing Chatham at 7:00 pm.
