HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata football closed their season with a 63-7 loss against visiting #16 Susquehanna Saturday afternoon, in the 60th edition of the Goalpost game.
The first did not get off to a good start for the Eagles when the River Hawks intercepted a pass at the Juniata 10. The River Hawks ran it in on their first play from scrimmage as their wide receiver took a reverse and put Susquehanna up 7-0. The Eagles went three and out and Susquehanna took over at the JC 37, and quickly got to work again as three plays later their running back was in the end zone as Juniata trailed 14-0 with 11:46 to go in the first.
It appeared Juniata was going to have to punt again, but a roughing the kicker penalty kept the drive alive. Two plays later however a fumble gave Susquehanna the ball at the JC 17, and their running back found the end zone for the second time to put them ahead 21-0.
The River Hawks added 21 more in the second while the Eagle offense couldn't find a grove, as Juniata trailed 42-0 at the half.
The teams traded three and outs to start the third, before Susquehanna went on a seven-play, 50-yard drive that used exactly three minutes and ended with an 11-yard TD pass. The Eagles went three and out before Susquehanna scored on a slant that their wide receiver took 37-yards to the house to make it 56-0.
After a River Hawk interception off an errant Eagle pass, Susquehanna took over at their own one. The defense held strong, and Clay Spencer (Hummelstown, Pa. / Lower Dauphin H.S.) returned the ball 15 yards to the River Hawk 25. Aaron Golberg (Westminster, Md. / Westminster H.S.) found Calvin Bembry II (Hagerstown, Md. / North Hagerstown) for a three-yard gain and then Golberg scrambled for a 10-yard pickup. Two plays later Golberg found Bembry for a 10-yard gain that put the ball at the one. Bembry ran it up the middle for six to get the Eagles on the board.
Susquehanna scored one more time to make it 63-7 on a six-yard rushing touchdown.
Juniata finishes the year 2-8.
