Bears Big Second, Fourth Quarters Pushes Them Past Eagles

Bears Big Second, Fourth Quarters Pushes Them Past Eagles

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa.- The Juniata football team couldn't keep pace as they fell 44-7 on the road at Ursinus, Saturday afternoon at Patterson Field.

The first quarter was scoreless, with both teams' defenses creating problems the offenses couldn't solve. Michael Grapin (Springfield, Pa. / Springfield HS) had a sack on third and nine near the 50 to end the first Bear drive, and JR Harrison's (Windsor Mill, Md. / Dulaney HS) tackle on third and eight helped force the three and out on the second.

The second quarter got off to an inauspicious start for the Eagles, as a little over two minutes in the quarter Ursinus scored on a 73-yard touchdown for the first points of the game.

A big sack from Ethan Hurst (Lancaster, Pa. / Manheim Township H.S.) helped get the JC defense off the field, but the Bears would find the endzone on an 11-yard TD pass on their next offensive drive to double their lead.

A JC fumble saw Ursinus take over in the red zone, but the Eagle defense limited the Bears to a field goal. Another sack, this one by Jamel Foster (York, Pa. / Red Lion Area Senior H.S.) and Seth Bernstein (York, Pa. / William Penn Senior), was key to forcing the field goal that made it 17-0, which was the score at halftime.

The third quarter got off to a good start for JC, with Logan Peachey (Reedsville, Pa. / Mifflin County H.S. (Kutztown)) intercepting a pass, and Juniata took over at their own 44. Noah Wright (Lewistown, Pa. / Mifflin County H.S.) ran for gains of six yards twice and completed a 13-yard pass to Clay Spencer (Hummelstown, Pa. / Lower Dauphin H.S.). On fourth and three, Wright found Javon Heggs (Jacksonville, Fl. / Sandalwood HS) for 29 yards to get the ball down to the one. Charles Debose (Tonawanda, N.Y. / Cardinal O'Hara HS) ran it in for the lone Eagle TD on the day.

Ursinus left no doubt in the final quarter as they put up 20 points to make it 44-7 at the final horn.

Adam Grajewski (Export, Pa. / Franklin Regional) again led the team in total tackles with 10, while Hurst was second with eight. Heggs had three catches for 65 yards, and Spencer added four receptions for 37 yards.

Juniata will honor their seniors before they take on Susquehanna next Saturday at 5:00.
