Ushijima Nets First Collegiate Goal, Gophers Downed by Muhlenberg

TOWSON, Md. - Nine different players scored for visiting Muhlenberg College as it recorded a 17-3 non-conference women's lacrosse victory over Goucher College at Beldon Field Saturday afternoon.
- Muhlenberg (3-0) scored two goals in the first 4:17 to take a 2-0 lead.
- Goucher (0-4) got on the board at the 8:59 mark when Minami Ushijima (Nishinomiya, Japan / Keimei Gakuin) scored her first collegiate goal on an assist from Julia Gazzola (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown).
- The Mules reeled off four straight goals to build a 6-1 lead after one quarter.
- Madeline Dill scored just 13 seconds into the second quarter for Muhlenberg.
- The Mules had the first five goals of the frame before Gazzola scored her 12th goal of the season on an assist from Emily Burk (Nottingham, Md./Perry Hall) 3:33 before halftime.
- The guests scored again 12 seconds before halftime and led 12-2 at intermission.
- Muhlenberg's Nicole Steiner had both goals in the third quarter coming at 13:36 and 4:16.
- Goucher relief goalie Sydney Lewis (Baltimore, Md./Carver) made 11 saves in the frame.
- Muhlenberg scored twice before Emily Flinn (Ashland, Va./Patrick Henry) scored with 2:34 remaining.
- The Mules scored their final goal in the waning moments to account for the final.
- Muhlenberg outshot Goucher 47-11 on the afternoon.
- Lewis made 15 saves after coming in 4:27 into the second quarter and allowing seven goals. Belle Christ (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) made three saves.
- Gazzola totaled a goal and an assist and extended her goal scoring streak to 11 straight games.
- Burk had a pair of caused turnovers for the Gophers.
- Lia Oren (Milwaukee, Wisc./Nicolet) had three draw controls for Goucher, while Molly Smith (Damascus, Md./Damascus) led the team with three ground balls.
