Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Lauren Dellipoali

JHU Defeats Swarthmore, 2-1, to Remain Unbeaten in Conference Play

Hopkins extends its winning streak to 11 games

The Basics
• Score: #4 Johns Hopkins – 2, #22 Swarthmore - 1
• Records: JHU (13-1, 7-0 CC) • Swarthmore (10-2-1, 4-1-1 CC)
• Location: Swarthmore, PA • Clothier Field
• The Short Story: In a matchup between the top two teams in the Centennial Conference and two top-25 teams, it was the no. 4 Johns Hopkins women's soccer team coming away with a 2-1 victory over #22 Swarthmore on the road on Saturday night.

How it Happened
• Hopkins got on the board early as Rachel Jackson slid a pass across the back line to Michelle Santangelo who finished the play, putting the ball past Garnet keeper Amy Shmoys at 3:40.
• The Garnet got even on a goal from Brittany Weiderhold who headed in the Louise Rosler pass at 37:19 to tie the match.
• Marin McCoy, the reigning conference player of the year, had a great opportunity to put Swarthmore in the lead, but her shot was turned away by Robyn Lipschultz.
• Jackson got her second helper of the match as she sent a pass from the right side of the box to Kristen Hori who cut back and scored the go-ahead goal at 76:21.
• The Garnet would not be able to get the tying goal as JHU kept control of the ball, not allowing a Swarthmore shot in the game's final nine minutes to seal the 2-1 victory.

What it Means
• The Blue Jays have now won their last 11 games with the last four games all being decided by one goal.
• JHU is now 27-2-3 all-time against the Garnet as the two Centennial rivals have played 18 matches which have been decided by one goal or less.
• In the last nine games between the two teams, seven have been decided by one goal or less. Hopkins has one OT victory while Swarthmore has won two matches in penalty kicks, including last year's conference tournament final.
• Johns Hopkins has won its last 18 Centennial Conference regular season matches.
