HAVERFORD, Pa. - Competing in intercollegiate action for the first time in 670 days, the Haverford Field Hockey team (1-0) wasted no time getting back into a winning rhythm, blanking Eastern (0-1) by a 1-0 final on Swan Field Thursday afternoon.

The Fords did well to control the tempo of the contest from the opening whistle, stifling the Eastern offense and holding the visitors without a shot in the first 30 minutes of action. On the other end of the field, Haverford peppered the cage to the tune of 10 shots and earned eight corners in the first two periods, but couldn't quite break through as the two sides went to the halftime intermission in a scoreless tie.

Senior captain Ravenel Davis was called upon to open the scoring in the 34th minute, hammering home a centering pass from Olivia Ahart to give Haverford the advantage. Eastern refused to go down quietly, returning fire with three shots of their own in the third period and narrowly missing the cage on one salvo, but a possession-minded approach and strong defensive presence from the hosts helped deny the equalizer.

In total, Haverford outshot the Eagles 20-3 and earned 12 corners to just three for Eastern. Davis and Delaney Snowden each fired six shots, while Davis had a game-best three on frame.

The Fords will have a quick turnaround, as the squad returns to action tomorrow night at Alvernia, with game time slated for 7:30 p.m. Haverford will then wrap up the holiday weekend on Monday, with a 4:30 p.m. contest at home against Immaculata.
