Blue Jays Defeat McDaniel, 55-50

JHU Improves to 13-2 in Centennial Conference Play

The Basics 
• Score: JHU - 55, McDaniel - 50

• Location: Westminster, MD • Gill Center
• The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins women's basketball team took the short trip to Westminster, MD where the Blue Jays handed McDaniel a 55-50 defeat on Wednesday night at the Gill Center.

How it Happened
• The teams got off to a slow start to open the game as the Green Terror led 10-8 after the first quarter of play. Maggie Wodicka hit a three at 8:19 in the second to give the Blue Jays an 11-10 advantage and the junior followed with a layup at 6:59 to put JHU up 13-10.
• A 4-0 McDaniel run put the Green Terror in the lead, 14-13 with 5:11 remaining in the second, but Elise Moore put Johns Hopkins right back in the lead with a layup at 4:36 to make it a 15-14 contest. Hopkins went on a 4-0 run to pull ahead 19-14 but a Liv Storer jumper as time expired in the half cut the Hopkins' lead to 19-16.
• After a Moore layup gave the Blue Jays a 21-16 lead early in the third the Green Terror went on a 7-0 run to pull ahead 23-21. Lillian Scott tied the game with a layup at 6:09, but a 5-0 McDaniel run put the home team on top 28-23.
Lexie Scholtz hit a three to make it a two-point game and a three-point play from Scott at 4:13 put the Blue Jays back up one, 29-28. McDaniel responded with back-to-back threes, but the Blue Jays outscored the Green Terror 7-1 in the quarter's final 2:40, capped by a three from Wodicka that sent Hopkins into the final quarter with a 36-35 lead.
• Johns Hopkins opened the fourth quarter on a 7-2 run to take a 43-37 lead but back-to-back McDaniel jumpers made it a two-point game with 4:49 remaining. After a free throw from Maggie Spitzer made the score 46-43, Renie Tsomos hit a jumper to make it a one-point game with 4:03 left.
• Two more Spitzer free throws put the Blue Jays up 48-45 with 2:59 left, but Tsomos hit a jumper to cut the lead to one. Madison McGrath hit a three with 1:38 remaining as Hopkins scored seven straight points to seal the 55-50 victory.

What it Means
• The Blue Jays have brought the all-time series to an even 42 all as the Blue Jays have come out with the win in the last six meetings.
• With the victory, Hopkins has clinched a spot in the Centennial Conference playoffs. 

Inside the Box Score
• Scott notched her 14th-straight double-digit scoring game with an 18-point effort to lead the Blue Jays. She also dished out a team-high five assists. Scholtz finished the game with nine points while Wodicka added eight and pulled down five boards.
• Spitzer led JHU with eight rebounds in the win.

Up Next
• JHU remains on the road for another Centennial Conference game as the Blue Jays will travel to Bryn Mawr on Saturday, February 2 to take on the Owls at 2 pm.
