Greyhounds Fall in Centennial Conference Match-Up to No. 9 Johns Hopkins

BALTIMORE, Md. --- The Moravian University football team fell to No. 9 Johns Hopkins University, 54-0, in Centennial Conference action Friday evening at Homewood Field.

How It Happened

  • Both teams would punt on their opening possession of the evening. The Blue Jays eventually scored the first touchdown of the game on their next drive with the first of three rushing touchdowns in the first quarter as Johns Hopkins jumped out to a 21-0 lead after 15 minutes of action
  • The Blue Jays added a touchdown and a field goal in the second quarter to hold a 31-0 edge after 30 minutes of play
  • Johns Hopkins added another touchdown and field goal in the third quarter to push the lead to 41-0
  • The Blue Jays tacked on two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter for the final score of 54-0 

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had 106 yards on 53 plays in the contest while Johns Hopkins recorded 600 yards on 80 plays
  • Sophomore Carter Hallgren completed 11-of-28 passes for 41 yards with three interceptions in his second career start
  • Junior wide receiver Tim Garlick caught four passes for 14 yards while sophomore wide receiver Jordan Lewis had two receptions for 10 yards. Senior tight end Chris Carpini added two catches for eight yards while junior wide receiver Brad Bryan caught two passes for six yards
  • Junior running back Nate Boyle carried the ball 20 times for 57 yards, and he caught a pass for seven yards while freshman running back Camron Tinajero had one yard on the first three rushing attempts of his career
  • Sophomore Sam Bingaman punted nine times for an average of 34.3 yards with a long of 46 yards and three fair caught
  • Graduate student defensive back Jalen Richardson returned three kickoffs for 55 yards while freshman running back Tre Crenshaw had a pair of kickoff returns for 19 yards
  • Freshman linebacker Jashon Teller lead the Greyhounds' defense with nine tackles including one for loss while junior linebacker Nick Levinski had eight stops to go with a pass break-up and a forced fumble
  • Graduate student defensive back Romello Walters registered seven tackles while sophomore defensive back Chad Newhard had six tackles and senior defensive lineman Javi Espinal-Katz made five stops
  • Richardson, junior defensive back Zach Scillia and freshman linebacker James Wells all posted four tackles while freshman linebacker Clay Basile and junior linebacker Chris Ortalano both made three stops
