CHESTERTOWN, MD. – The Ursinus College men's swimming team collected seven event victories in route to a 143-119 victory over Washington College on Saturday afternoon.
With the victory, the Bears improved to 6-2 overall and 3-2 in Centennial Conference action, meanwhile the Shoremen fell to 3-4 on the season and 2-3 in conference play.
Ursinus opened with second and third place finishes in the 200-yard medley relay as the quartet of
Jonah Kasznay,
Francesco D'Avella,
Dylan Schreffler, and
Ryan Carkhuff finished with the second-best time at 1:37.86.
First-year
David McCauley earned two event victories as he collected first-place finishes in the 1000 (10:11.54) and 500-yard freestyles (4:51.51). Sophomore
Jonah Kasznay collected a first-place finish in the 200 IM touching the wall at 1:58.47, and a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:47.46.
Senior
Ryan Schreffler took home the best time in the 100-yard backstroke (55.05), while sophomore
Jan Perez-Bonilla collected a first-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:02.61. Senior
Ryan Carkhuff recorded the quickest time in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.45 while junior
Stephen Lyons tallied a second-place finish in the 50 free touching the wall at 21.84. Lyons outpaced Carkhuff (3
rd, 48.49) in the 100-yard freestyle as the junior earned a second-place finish with a time of 48.15.
Senior
Samuel Taffet tallied a second-place finish in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:18.00, while teammates
Kevin Sonn (2:19.02) and
Jake Hennegan (2:19.74) finished close behind in third and fourth. In the 500-yard freestyle, sophomore
Jake Klucinec earned a second-place finish with a time of 5:02.07, while Perez-Bonilla took third touching the wall at 5:11.24.
The Bears will return to action on Saturday as they host Dickinson College and will recognize their seniors prior to the meet.
