• The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins men's track & field team opened up the outdoor season at the Fred Hardy Invitational where the Blue Jays had many impressive performances during day one of competition.

Results
Johns Hopkins Winners:
• Benjamin Huang took home first place in the pole vault as he cleared 4.40m.
• In the steeplechase,
Andrew King claimed first among non-division I competitors with a time of 9:38.12. The top two division I competitors finished with a time of 9:37.05 and 9:38.13.
Other Meet Highlights:
• Competing in his first collegiate meet, freshman
Ethan Bartlett set a new school record in the triple jump with a mark of 14.31m, which was good enough for third overall among non-Division I opponents.
• In the shot put,
Sean Becker and
Kyle Battles finished sixth and seventh with throws of 11.32m and 11.08m, respectively. Battles also earned a seventh-place finish in the javelin throw with a mark of 47.78m while teammate
Zach Ellis finished just ahead of him in sixth with a throw of 50.34m.

Alex Doran crossed the line in third in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3.58.41, which was just fractions of a second behind third-place finisher, Dominic Stroh who finished the race in 3:58.29.
Panth Patel earned an eighth-place finish with a time of 3:59.59.

• Hopkins returns to action tomorrow to wrap up the Fred Hardy Invitational. The first event of the day is scheduled to begin at 9 am.
