Women's Lacrosse Falls Short at Albright

READING, Pa. – The Ursinus College women's lacrosse team came up short on Saturday, falling 12-10 to Albright. The Bears went into the half tied at six goals apiece but were unable to overcome a four-goal second-half deficit.

Hanna Crowley tallied her second career hat-trick on Saturday as the junior finished with three goals. Abby Krasutsky and Grace Langen each scored multiple goals as well with two each.

The Bears (0-3) earned the game's first possession, winning the opening draw control. Krasutsky had an early free position shot saved and then Albright (2-1) capitalized on a turnover to put the home team on the board first.

Ursinus immediately responded with a goal by Krasutsky before a second goal in 15 seconds, this time by Reape, gave the Bears a 2-1 lead. However, Albright would go on to score the next four to put the Lions up 5-2.

With 13:28 to play in the half, the Bears finally got one back. Langen scored her second goal of the season but the Lions matched with a goal of their own to keep the deficit at three. Crowley found the back of the net 53 seconds later to spark a run of Ursinus goals. Jill Verrelle scored her first goal of the afternoon to bring the game back within one and then with 6:12 left in the opening half, it was Crowley with her second goal of the day who tied the game at six.

After a run of four goals in just over five minutes of play, the two sides remained scoreless in the final 6:12. The Bears defense remained stout, forcing three turnovers, while the offense came close to taking the lead as a Krasutsky shot was saved and then Reilly Morgan hit the post in the final seconds.

While it was Ursinus that came close in the final moments of the opening half, Albright came out and scored three consecutive goals to open the second. Finally, at the 20:16 mark, Verrelle found Crowley who scored her third goal of the day to break the run and make it 9-7.

However, the Bears were unable to get any closer as Albright kept its distance, eventually going up 12-8. Ursinus didn't back down however as Katie Cressman and Langen scored a pair of goals in the final 10 seconds to make it 12-10.

Led by Krasutsky's career-high nine shots, the Bears outshot the Lions 32-20 on the day. On the defensive end, Becca Lewis caused three turnovers while Julie Cherneskie, Emma Wood, and Alyssa Penny each had two.

Ursinus is back at home on Tuesday when it hosts Stockton on Patterson at 4 p.m.
