SEASON PREVIEW

Coming off an 11 win season and a third place finish in the Centennial Conference, the Red Devils will have plenty of new faces this season. Losing 265 of their 376 total points to graduation, Dickinson will be a different team this year. Captains Cole Pellicano (Arnold, Md./Broadneck), Nick Goles (Monkton, Md./Loyola Blakefield), and Ryan Shaffer (West Caldwell, N.J./Caldwell) have set a good example in practice for the new players and have this team ready to go heading into the season.

Cole Pellicano brings a steady presence in goal for the Red Devils. The senior goalkeeper finished third in the conference with 199 saves, fifth in save percentage with 54.5%, and fifth in goals against average with 10.31 last season.

To start the season, the defense will be led by senior Rocco Casaceli (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow), junior Henry Cordisco (Kennett Square, Pa./Haverford School), and sophomore Peter O’Sullivan (New Canaan, Conn./Avon Old Farms). Freshman Seamus McCloskey (Wallingford, Pa./Haverford School) also figures to feature in the backline as well for the Red Devils.

The strength of this team will be in the defensive midfield. Sophomore Teddy MacFarlane (Towson, Md./Gillman) looks to build off his strong freshman season in which he scooped up 32 ground balls, caused 13 turnovers, and scored one goal. Also returning will be junior Matt Donnelly (Frenchtown, N.J./Delaware Valley Regional). Donnelly finished last season with seven goals, four assists, 13 ground balls, and four caused turnovers. Junior Bobby Barroll (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul’s School) also returns off a strong season in which he recovered 33 ground balls, and caused nine turnovers.

In the Midfield, senior Ryan Schaffer will look to have a strong season for Dickinson. He posted 14 points last season on 12 goals, and two assists. Schaffer also grabbed six ground balls and caused two turnovers. There will also be an injection of youth into the midfield with the arrivals of freshmen James Isaacson (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) and Sam Campbell (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) also being added to the mix.

Senior Nick Goles will lead the attack for the Red Devils. Goles pitched in 22 goals, 12 assists, 37 ground balls, and caused four turnovers for Dickinson last season. The senior also figures to feature in the midfield as well for Dickinson. Freshmen Skyler Schluter (Summit, N.J./Summit), and Griffin Moore (Ridgefield, Conn./Trinity-Pawling School) will also feature for the Red Devils.

Dickinson will begin the season thin at the faceoff position. Senior Will Smith (Buffalo, N.Y./Canisius) figures to get the nod to start the year. Smith was 1-4 on faceoffs last season.

Head coach Dave Webster has a lot of production to replace, but as this young squad gains experience and confidence, look for the 19th ranked Red Devils to really take off.

LOOKING AHEAD

The Red Devils return home for a top-20 matchup on Saturday, February 22 at 2:00 pm. Dickinson will host 18th ranked Stevens at Biddle Field.
