Bears Defeated By Diplomats on Senior Day

Collegeville, PA- Ursinus women's soccer (2-10-1) took a loss to conference rival Franklin & Marshall (10-2-1) on Saturday at Patterson Field. It was Senior day, and after a touching ceremony for the graduating members of the team the match kicked off under overcast skies in Montgomery County.

The Diplomats took an early lead in the 10th minute when Meg O'Callahan scored on a penalty kick, slipping her 5th goal of the season past Ursinus goalkeeper Mandy Carideo. They never looked back. Just minutes later, F&M scored again to go up 2-0 on a goal from Sierra Brophy. It was her 12th goal of the year.

The Bears could not catch a break on the defensive side of the ball. In the 20th minute, Meg O'Callahan struck again on another penalty kick, netting her second marker of the contest. The Diplomats extended their lead to 3-0 in what looked to be a long day for the Bears.

Ursinus was able to muster a few offensive chances in a comeback effort. Morgan Raley and Izzy Allocco each had shots on goal in the first half, both of which were saved by F&M keeper Emily Senko. Allocco also had another shot that missed the net wide.

Unfortunately, the onslaught continued, and the Diplomats scored again on Haley Barge's 8th goal of the season, extending their lead to 4-0. With just minutes left in the half, Ursinus allowed another penalty kick opportunity for F&M and Allison Francis converted, making the score 5-0.

The score would remain the same until the halftime break. Franklin & Marshall led Ursinus in shots 9-3 and 7-2 in shots on goal after the first stanza.

In the second half, Maddie Nau went in at goalie for Ursinus to try and stifle the Diplomat offense. Nau did well, tallying 5 saves over the remainder of the game and keeping the score where it was. However, the Ursinus offense never found the back of the net as time ticked off the game clock. The match ended with the Diplomats comfortably beating the Bears 5-0.

F&M finished the game leading in shots 16-10 and shots on goal 12-6. Ursinus will see action next on Wednesday night at Muhlenberg.
