The Muhlenberg women's basketball team went cold down the stretch and fell to Catholic, 61-52, in a hard-fought Scotty Wood Tournament championship game.
Seniors
Emily O'Mahoney and
Madison Kirchofer were named to the all-tournament team.
The Mules (2-3) took an early 12-4 lead and remained on top through the rest of the first half, taking a 31-30 lead into the break.
Neither team led by more than three points in a seesaw third quarter until senior
Ashley Polera made a layup in the closing seconds to give Muhlenberg a 48-44 lead.
That would be the last field goal made by the Mules, however. They were 0-for-11 from the field in the fourth quarter but remained in striking distance thanks to a defense that held Catholic to just one field goal in the final period. The Cardinals (6-0) made 14 free throws in the fourth, including five in the final 32 seconds to account for the final nine-point margin.
O'Mahoney led the Mules with 12 points, one off her career high, and added 3 assists and 3 steals in the final. Senior
Emilie Benton (pictured above)Â scored 9 points, and freshman
Sara Peretti finished with 4 points and a team-high 6 rebounds.
