SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Haverford College men's tennis team (6-4, 1-1 CC), ranked ninth in the Atlantic South region, was unable to take down a second consecutive ranked opponent on Wednesday afternoon, falling by a 7-2 final to No. 29 Swarthmore (12-4, 5-0 CC) at the Faulkner Tennis Courts. The Garnet picked up a Hood Trophy point in the process, pulling ahead 6.5 to 5.5 in the annual rivalry series between athletic departments.

Swarthmore took all three doubles points with the team of John Nichols-Daly and Grant Dill taking down George Jiang and Stefan Johnson by an 8-6 final before Charlie Force, the Garnet's top ranked singles player, teamed up with Rushil Patel to take down Jason Edmonds and Patrick Kley by an 8-2 final at the second flight.

Max Pogorelov and Graham Hadesman then defeated Jackson Trevor and James McKenzie at the third doubles pairing by an 8-5 final. Force delivered a win at the top singles flight, dispatching Jiang 6-1, 6-1 to put the Garnet on the brink of victory in the first singles battle to reach completion.

Reigning Centennial Conference Player of the Week Andreas Wingert then grabbed Haverford's first victory, taking down Kevin Jiang by identical 6-3 set scores. Danny Loder was defeated by Patel at the third flight, taking the first set 6-3 before Patel rallied for a 6-3 victory of his own, and later clinched the match with a 10-7 triumph.

Adam Chow later fell to Josiah Myers-Lipton (6-3, 6-3) at the fifth flight, but Stefan Johnson delivered a victory for Haverford, taking a convincing 6-1 second set victory to set up a third set tiebreaker in which he prevailed by a 10-8 final. Noah Criss defeated James McKenzie (6-1, 6-2) at the sixth flight to wrap things up for the night.

Haverford now returns home for a pair of matches this weekend at the Bramall Courts. The first matchup on Friday, April 8 against No. 22 Mary Washington, is slated for 4 p.m. before Senior Day at noon on Saturday, April 9 against Franklin & Marshall.
