Swarthmore And McDaniel Trade Blows On Saturday

WESTMINSTER, Md. - No. 6-ranked Swarthmore College Baseball split a Centennial Conference doubleheader with McDaniel College on Saturday.

The Garnet (15-6, 3-2) and Green Terror (9-12-1, 1-4) each won a game convincingly.

Game One: McDaniel 10, Swarthmore 5

Swarthmore jumped out to a lead in the first inning as senior Jackson Roberts drove in junior Jared Gillen with a single.
McDaniel rallied to score four in the second, and the Green Terror never gave up their lead.

Singles from sophomore Michael Sepe and senior Conor Elliott brought the Garnet within one in the third, but McDaniel ended up pulling away in the later innings.

Junior Cole Beeker brought home senior Charles Levitt with a single in the eighth. The game was out of reach at that point.

Swarthmore junior reliever William Line pitched two scoreless innings.

Roberts and Elliott led the Garnet with two hits each.

Game Two: Swarthmore 16, McDaniel 3

The bats came alive and the pitching was lights out for Swarthmore in Game 2.

The Garnet plated at least one runner in seven different innings, and they had six doubles in the contest.

Junior right fielder Holden Bridge went 4-for-5 with an RBI, three runs scored, two stolen bases and two of the aforementioned doubles. He's now leading the Centennial Conference with a .456 batting average. He regularly bats seventh for Swarthmore.

Junior Cole Beeker and freshman Luke Mutz both went 3-for-4 in this one. Beeker had two doubles and walked twice. He's second in the conference with a .442 batting average. He's first in the Centennial with 26 RBIs and a .585 on-base percentage.

Gillen, Roberts and Sepe had two hits apiece. Sepe drove in four runners.

Senior Ricky Conti improved to 3-1 on the mound this season by pitching seven innings and allowing just one earned run. Senior Zach Gonzalez and freshman Drew McMahan both pitched a scoreless inning. In his last four outings, McMahan has pitched four innings and allowed just one hit while striking out six.
