ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - Led by three first-place and two runner-up finishes, the McDaniel College wrestling team finished first out of 10 teams at the Ken Ober Memorial tournament hosted by Elizabethtown on Saturday.
The Green Terror totaled 132.5 points to capture the team title over Centenary who finished second with 113. The host Blue Jays came in third with 107 points while York (PA) placed fourth with 103.5.
McDaniel enjoyed first-place finishes from freshman
Thomas Monn at 149 pounds, senior
Alex LaVeck at 165 and senior
Michael Bromley at 184. Sophomore
Xavier Howard and junior
Jaedyn Harris both finished second at 157 and 197 pounds, respectively.
Monn continued his undefeated streak, totaling 22 points and posting a 4-0 record to improve to 24-0 this season. He began the day with back-to-back first period falls to reach the semifinals at 149 before winning his third tournament title this season with two-straight major decisions.
Monn took home first place at the Messiah Invitational and Blue Jay Classic.
LaVeck went 3-0 and totaled 19 points with a decision and two falls. After opening with a 4-0 decision over Delaware Valley's Darrale Barrett in the quarterfinals, he posted a fall in 1:09 over Roanoke's Jack Bobeck and a fall in 6:43 against Delaware Valley's Adam Coleman.
LaVeck is 17-6 this season with 13 of those 17 wins coming by fall.
Like Monn, Bromley also went 4-0, totaling 20 points at 184 pounds. He also started his day with two consecutive first period falls before advancing to the first-place match with a 19-5 major decision over Simon Taraska of Norwich. In his first career tournament at 184, he won his first tournament title with a 7-2 decision over Centenary's Justin Hopman.
Howard advanced to the first-place match at 157 pounds with two convincing wins by decision, 11-4 and 6-1, before falling to Cameron Bruffy of Centenary, 8-5. Bruffy entered the match ranked sixth in the Mid-East Region by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA).
Howard earned the best tournament finish of his career after he placed fourth at the Blue Jay Classic on Dec. 3.
Harris posted a tech fall in the quarterfinals and a first period fall in the semifinals before he was edged in the first tiebreaker by the nation's seventh-ranked wrestler at 197 pounds, Camden Farrow of York (PA).
Several other wrestlers had strong showings for the Green Terror, including junior

Ty Jefferson at 149 pounds, sophomore
Val Pryor at 184, junior
Alex DuFour at 125 and freshman
Ryan Athey at 141.
Olympio posted a 3-1 record and finished third at 174 pounds to earn 17.5 points while Jefferson led the team with five wins on the day, posting a 5-1 record en route to a fifth-place finish. After falling in his opening match by major decision, he reeled off four-straight wins by fall before winning by medical forfeit in the fifth-place match.
Pryor went 4-1 with a fall, tech fall and major decision, defeating Zach Vasquez of Norwich in the fifth-place match, 12-3.
Meanwhile, DuFour and Athey each went 4-2 to finish sixth at their respective weight classes. Athey advanced to the quarterfinals at 141 before falling to ninth-ranked Xavier Pena of Centenary.
McDaniel hosts Gettysburg in its home finale on Wednesday inside the Gill Center beginning at 7 p.m.
