The Muhlenberg wrestling team defeated Merchant Marine and Johns Hopkins to finish the Centennial Conference dual-meet season with a perfect 6-0 record.
The dual-meet title is the first for the Mules (18-4), who also tied the school record set last year with 18 wins in duals, since the 2000-01 season. They will attempt to win the championship that counts most - the tournament championship - when they host the CC meet at Memorial Hall next Saturday.
Senior
Josh Hickey (133), sophomore
Greg Baum (141), senior
Austin Sherman (149), sophomore
Luca Colestock (197) and
Scott Schaeffer (HWT) all went 2-0 on the day.Â
Muhlenberg also sent nine wrestlers to the Messiah Open. Sophomore
Nick Cope did the best, placing fifth at 165.
The Mules trailed Merchant Marine 6-4 after three bouts, which included the 15th career major decision for senior
Dylan Schwartz. The nationally ranked 165-pounder did not wrestle against Hopkins and finished with a career record of 14-1 in CC duals.
Senior
Jimmy Fratantoni battled Merchant Marine's nationally ranked 184-pounder into overtime before falling, 3-1.
A technical fall by Colestock (28-1) started a string of seven straight victories, all with bonus points, for the Mules, who went on win 37-10. Schaeffer needed just 34 seconds to notch his 30th career pin.
Muhlenberg took a forfeit in the first bout against Johns Hopkins but lost only one contested bout en route to a 34-15 win. Sherman
(pictured above) posted his second major decision of the day, moving to within one of the school record of 19 career majors.
