CARLISLE, Pa. – Senior
Jess Alessi (Schoharie, N.Y./Ichabod Crane) and sophomore
Holly Ferrara (Holland, Pa./Council Rock South) each picked up wins in the throwing events to lead the Gettysburg College women's track and field team at the Little 3 Meet hosted by Dickinson College on Saturday.
Alessi continued her ascension up the program's list in the hammer throw. She beat out a pair of Franklin & Marshall College performers with a personal best toss of 127 feet, 5 inches to win the event by eight inches. Alessi topped her previous career long by 15 inches and moved past
Kiersten Dyhrberg '19 for fourth on Gettysburg's all-time list. Alessi also finished third in the shot put with a throw of 32 feet, 3.5 inches.
For the second consecutive week, Ferrara won the javelin. She fell two feet shy of her PR set last weekend at the UMW Opener, but she easily out-distanced the field by over 12 feet with a heave of 127 feet.
Sophomore
Alexa Schauder (Cedar Knolls, N.J./Whippany Park) finished runner-up in the high jump at 4 feet, 5 inches and she placed third in the pole vault with a PR-tying 9 feet, 6.25 inches. Freshman
Lauren DiOttavio (Romansville, Pa./Downingtown West) logged a pair of third-place finishes in the 100 meters (13.08) and 200 meters (28.00), while junior
Lily Morrell (Frederick, Md./Urbana) placed third in the 400-meter hurdles (1:14.63). Morrell also finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17 seconds.
Senior
Katherine Mangione (Doylestown, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) finished fourth in all three of her throwing events: discus (101 feet), shot put (32 feet, 0.25 inches), and javelin (106 feet, 1 inch). Senior
Kathrin O'Brien (Lynchburg, Va./Virginia Episcopal School) finished fourth in the 5,000 with a time of 19:34.63, which was 12 seconds faster than her time in the 5000 at the Centennial Conference Indoor Championships in February.
In the team scoring, Dickinson tallied the most points with 168. Franklin and Marshall totaled 147 points and Gettysburg finished with 93.
