Hopkins Came-From-Behind to Win Game Two

GAME ONE
•  Score: JHU – 9, Haverford - 10
• Records: Hopkins (20-8, 6-3 CC) • Haverford (14-11, 7-2 CC)
• Location: Haverford, PA • Kannerstein Field
• Pitching Decision: W- Ryan Giovenco (1-3) , L – Josh Hejka (3-2), S- Brandon Jenkins (3)
• The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins baseball team held a 6-1 lead after the top of the third, but Haverford used a six-run fourth to take an 8-6 lead, and after the Blue Jays tied the game in the sixth, the Fords rallied in the bottom of the inning, scoring two runs to take a 10-8 lead as they went on to take game one by a 10-9 score.

How it Happened
• The Blue Jays got out to a quick 4-0 lead in the top of the first as Mike Eberle walked and hustled home on a Chris Festa double to make it 1-0. Nate Davis hit a home run for the third straight game as his two-run shot made the score 3-0. Adam Kohl then worked a walk to force in fourth Blue Jay run of the inning.
• Haverford got a run back in the bottom of the first as the Fords took advantage of two Hopkins errors to plate a run.
• Hopkins added a run in the second as Eberle scored on a delayed steal to make it 5-1. The Fords looked to have a rally starting in the bottom of the inning as Zach Landry led off with a single, however, he was thrown out by AJ King trying to steal second, and Preston Betz got the next two batters to ground out to third to end the inning.
• A sacrifice fly by Kohl in the third gave Johns Hopkins a 6-1 lead but once again Haverford tacked on a run in the bottom of the inning to make it a 6-2 ballgame.
• Haverford scored six runs in the fourth to take an 8-6 lead. The big hit of the inning was a three-run homer from Ethan Lee-Tyson that put the Fords in the lead.
• The Blue Jays rallied to tie the game in the sixth as Festa scored on a groundout by Chris DeGiacomo and Davis tied the game as he scored on a passed ball to make it an 8-8 contest.
• In the bottom of the sixth, the Fords regained the lead, scoring two runs on a single from Luke Wallis to take a 10-8 lead.
• The Blue Jays loaded the bases in the top of the ninth and Davis came around to score on a wild pitch to make it a one-run game, but Haverford got the next two outs to take the game, 10-9.

Inside the Box Score
• Though he suffered the loss, Hejka was solid through 4.2 innings of relief as he scattered three hits and walked none while striking out four. Only one of the three runs that scored while he was in the game was earned.
• Davis led the Blue Jays with two hits in the game and his 2 RBI gives him 20 on the season.

GAME TWO
• Score: Hopkins – 5, Haverford – 3
• Records: JHU (21-8, 7-3 CC) • Haverford (14-12, 7-3 CC)
• Pitching Decision: W – Jack Bunting (7-0) • Eric Kopczynski (1-1)
• The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins baseball team was trailing 3-1 entering the top of the seventh, but Hopkins scored four unanswered runs to complete the comeback against Haverford and win game two, 5-3.

How it Happened
• Matthew Dillard held the Fords in check through the first few innings as he tallied five strikeouts through the first 2.1 innings. After a single and an error put a runner on third, Lee-Tyson doubled home the first run of the game. Dillard then got the next batter swinging and James Ingram picked off Lee-Tyson at second to end the inning.
• Hopkins tied the game in the fourth as Festa doubled to lead off the inning and advanced to third on a wild pitch. He then came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Frank Clara to tie the game.
• With runners on second and third, Lee-Tyson laid down a bunt that broke the 1-1 tie and a Harrison Burns single to center made it a 3-1 Fords lead.
• After Clara walked to lead off the inning, Tim Kutcher launched the 3-1 pitch over the left field wall to tie the game at three.
• Jack Bunting entered the game with one out in the seventh and runners on second and third and Ingram once again picked off a Fords' runner as he got the runner at third for out two, and Bunting got the next batter to fly out to end the inning.
• Haverford put the pressure on Hopkins in the eighth as Luke Wallis led off the inning with a triple to left center and Bunting hit Owen Plambeck with a pitch to put runners on the corners with no outs. Zach Landry laid a bunt down the first base line that Bunting fielded and Landry somehow avoided the diving tag by Bunting to load the bases. The senior captain then took control as he got the next batter to strike out and then got a pop up to get to two outs. Nick Perez then hit a ground ball to Matthew Ritchie who dove and tagged third base to end the inning and keep the game tied.
• With the count 0-2 in the top of the ninth, DeGiacomo broke the tie with his seventh home run of his season as he took the pitch over the right field wall to give Hopkins a 4-3 lead, and Kohl gave JHU a two-run lead with a sacrifice fly that plated Clara.
• Bunting came back out for the bottom of the ninth and retired the Fords in order to seal the 5-3 come-from-behind victory for Hopkins.
