HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College women's soccer team (6-3-4, 2-2-3) registered a key Centennial Conference victory over visiting McDaniel (6-4-4, 4-2-2), a team receiving votes in the latest United Soccer Coaches Poll, on Saturday, using a second-half goal from Celia Page to take a hard-fought 1-0 win over the Green Terror. The Fords earned a key three points as the chase for Centennial Conference postseason play heats up into mid October. Haverford held a 12-5 edge in shots on the afternoon, holding McDaniel without a shot in the second half with a swarming defensive pressure.

McDaniel came out firing in the early goings, putting some solid shots on frame as Jules Dotterweich and Jessica Weinoldt each tested Claire Cywes in the first half of play. Celia Page rocketed a shot square on target in the 40th minute, calling Katherine Carstensen into action for the visitors, but ultimately the first half ended scoreless with Ashley Chun firing wide of cage in the final moments before the teams headed to intermission.

A renewed Haverford attack in the second half saw the Fords dominate possession for much of the stanza, with first years Lauren Anderson and Abigale Baker each registering early shots as the Fords displayed a renewed intensity. Celia Page found the back of the cage in the 60th minute after Haverford earned a corner. Page took the corner and looped the ball into the back of the net for her fifth goal of the season as Haverford celebrated the stunner from long-distance and the newfound lead.

Alyssa Saito later had a pair of strong looks that Carstensen turned away in the 67th and 69th minutes, and Saito again rocketed an attempt on frame in the 76th minute, the final shot for either side as the Fords looked to play possession and used a stellar turn from the backline to keep a pushing McDaniel from finding the equalizer.

Ultimately, in the crucial moments down the stretch, the Fords were able to keep the ball in the attacking third, hanging on for the key 1-0 win. Haverford has now won back-to-back home contests with McDaniel, the reigning Centennial Conference Champions.

Haverford now returns home to Walton Field on Wednesday, continuing the homestand with a 4 p.m. kickoff against Bi-Co neighbor Bryn Mawr.
