HAVERFORD, Pa. — Swarthmore College Women's Track and Field kicked off its 2021-22 campaign with strong performances at the unscored Haverford Holiday Meet on Saturday.
In the first field event of the day for the Garnet,
Emily Trelstad finished atop the high jump heap, earning a best mark of 1.58 meters (5'-2.25") in their first collegiate meet.
Long jumpers
Alyssa Zhang and
Miranda Kashynski found similar success in their first NCAA action, placing first and second with bests of 4.86 meters (15'-11.5") and 4.74 meters (15'-6.75"), respectively.
Adria Retter led the way for Swarthmore in shot put with a best throw of 12.30 meters (40'-4.5"), good for second place.
On the track,
Krystle Boadi finished first in two individual events, completing the 60-meter sprint in 8.24 seconds and the 200-meter run in 26.78 seconds, a personal best. The junior also anchored a first place finish for Swarthmore's 4x400 meter relay team; Boadi,
Rose Teszler,
Gabby Johnson, and
Miranda Kashynski completed the race with a time of 4:12.96.
Teszler, just two weeks removed from competing in the NCAA Division III National Cross Country Championships with her dual-sport teammate
Nora Blodgett, won the 800-meter race with a time of 2:23.17. Swarthmore's
Clare D'Amato (2:30.68) and
Gabby Johnson (2:31.04) finished second and third, respectively.
Blodgett, for her part, placed first in the 3000-meter run with a time of 11:05.03. Swarthmore's Catherine Crochunis-Brown crossed the finish line next behind her at a personal-best 11:26.37.
The women's track and field team will next be in action after the new year when they travel to New York City for the Lions Indoor Invitational, hosted by The College of New Jersey, on January 15.
