ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. – Junior
Hannah Fireman (Ambler, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) shot an 84 to earn medalist honors and Gettysburg won the tight battle to capture the team title at the McDaniel College Spring Invitational at The Bridges Golf Club on Sunday.
After posting a team score of 344 on Saturday, Gettysburg carded a 346 in the final round of competition. The combined total of 690 was four strokes ahead Stevenson University who tallied 694. St. John Fisher College finished third with a 742.
Fireman, who also won the invitational last year, finished the 36-hole total with a 165. She opened the first round with an 81 and collected an 84 on the final day. Junior
Skylar Frankiewicz (Concord, Mass./Concord Carllisle) trailed her teammate by four strokes after the opening round, but made up the difference with an 81 on Sunday to finish as runner-up with a 166.
Fellow classmate
Katie McCarthy (Westlake, Ohio/Hathaway Brown School) tied for third after carding a combined total of 171. The junior closed Sunday by tallying an 89 after registering an 82 Saturday.
Freshman
Cameron D'Amica (Milford, N.J./Delaware Valley) and senior
Gillian Marini (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) finished 14th and 19th, respectively. D'Amica finished four strokes off her day one score to conclude with a total of 188 (96-92), while Marini recorded a two-day score of 200 (101-99).
Gettysburg returns to the course next Saturday and Sunday at the York Invitational, which will be held at the Country Club of York.
