HAVERFORD, Pa - The Haverford College field hockey team (3-5, 1-1 CC) was defeated by Bryn Mawr (8-1, 2-0 CC), a team receiving votes in the latest NFHCA Poll, in Centennial Conference action on Swan Field Wednesday evening, falling by a 1-0 final.

Bryn Mawr got on the scoreboard early, scoring on its second shot of the contest in just the sixth minute. After the Owls forced a turnover, Novy Goetgeluk was in good position to fire a cross from the top of the circle, where Hazel Miller was waiting to deflect the attempt into the back of the cage for an early 1-0 lead. Haverford earned a penalty corner in the opening moments of the second frame, with Dalia Bercow inserting the attempt, but the shot from Anna Kirn was saved by a lunging Maggie Titus.

The visitors controlled much of the possession on the evening, with Mary Smith doing well to turn away scoring opportunities for the Owls, notching three saves. Smith was called into action to make a stop in the 11th minute and made another in the 19th minute and the 28th minute, keeping the contest a one-goal game entering halftime.

Haverford earned another penalty corner in the third period, but ultimately neither side fired a shot in the second half as Kirn's salvo proved to be Haverford's best scoring opportunity of the contest. Ultimately, Bryn Mawr held an 11-1 edge in shots and a 15-2 edge in penalty corners.

The contest was the first during Haverford Athletics' Pride Week, which continues through October 3, as Haverford's Play with Pride Club hosted a pre-match tailgate.

The Fords now continue Centennial Conference play on Saturday, heading down to Baltimore to face off with No. 6 Johns Hopkins. The contest is slated to begin at 1 p.m. on Homewood Field.
