Five members of the Muhlenberg track and field teams won their events at the 20th Muhlenberg Invitational.
The Mules took advantage of the unseasonably warm weather to post strong performances across the board, adding seven second-place finishes and eight thirds.
In the most exciting finish of the day, sophomore
Luke Ullmann overtook freshman
Sam Morgan in the final few meters to win the 800, knocking his personal best down from 1:59.15 to 1:56.91. Ullmann
(pictured above left) also ran an outstanding first leg of the 4x400 relay, helping Muhlenberg to a second-place finish.Â
Senior
Corey Mullins won the 1500 going away, finishing almost four seconds ahead of the next collegiate competitor. Entering the weekend, his time of 3:57.72 is the best in the Centennial Conference this season.
Taking first place for the women were freshman
Abby Dalton in the 800, junior
Alyssa Curtis (pictured above right) in the steeplechase and sophomore
Emily Mitchell in the long jump. Dalton led a 1-2 Mule finish (with junior
Victoria Cabellos) with a time of 2:18.78, entering the all-time performance list in eighth place. And while Curtis won the steeple, it was her teammate, sophomore
Cameron McCauley, who made the biggest splash (pun intended), improving her personal best by more than 39 seconds.
After adding almost six inches to his personal best, sophomore
Zach Lill raised the bar even higher in the pole vault, improving eight inches to 14-1¼. He is the fourth athlete in program history to clear 14 feet.
Freshman
Corrin Ferrizzi entered the all-time performance list in the triple jump in second place, hitting the sand at 35-10¾ to finish in second place. In the women's throws, freshman
Megan Kveragas entered the performance list in the javelin in eighth place, and classmate
Abigail Wesolek moved from third to second in the hammer.
