FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Gettysburg College men's track and field team kicked off its outdoor season at the University of Mary Washington Opener on Saturday.
Freshman
Aidan Kiernan (Pelham Manor, N.Y./Pelham Memorial) paced Gettysburg with a fourth-place finish in the 100-meter dash. Kiernan blazed across the line in 11.19, finishing 0.13 seconds behind the winner and moving into ninth on the program's all-time list.
Senior
Will Hopkins (Raleigh, N.C./Needham B. Broughton) also placed fourth in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:13.60, missing a top-three finish by just 0.25 seconds. Hopkins also placed sixth in the 400 meters with a time of 54.07.
Gettysburg featured a pair of runners in the top 10 of the 5,000 meters with junior
Connor Elliott (Media, Pa./Salesianum) clocking 16:04.55 for fifth and senior
Charles Norelli (Allentown, Pa./Emmaus) crossing the line in 17:06.02 for ninth. Junior
Eric Liedtka (Hamilton, N.J./Notre Dame) placed fifth in the 110-meter hurdles at 16.75.
In the field events, freshman
Joe Siino (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes) finished second in the high jump (5-8.75), while junior
Caden Giordano (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) finished third in the triple jump with a distance of 42 feet, 1.25 inches.
Gettysburg finished fifth overall in the team standings with 54 points, Delaware State won the team title with 228.5 points.
Gettysburg competes at the Little 3 Meet at Dickinson College on Saturday, March 26, at 11 a.m.
