NEW PROVIDENCE, N.J.—Swarthmore College Women's Swimming earned a win over nationally-ranked Rowan University on Saturday afternoon. The Garnet defeated the No. 22 Profs 134-127 at a quad meet at the Berkeley Aquatic Club. Swarthmore fell to No. 4 Johns Hopkins 199-60 and was edged by Worcester Polytechnic Institute 131-130.
With it being the first meet since December 8 and with just a month to go until the Conference Championship, many swim times were expectedly slower than seed times. Selina Ye provided an exception to that in two separate events, with a 2:13.64 in the 200 IM, a full two seconds faster than her seed time, and in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.58). Teammate Sophia Lee's 2:14.83 had her in fifth, right behind Ye, in the 200 IM.
Gaby Ma had the best individual finish among Swarthmore swimmers on Saturday when she finished in second place in the 100 breaststroke. Ma was less than a second off the lead with a time of 1:07.28. Classmate Annabella Boardman took fourth in the event with a time of 1:07.90.
Other top-five finishes included Hannah Kloetzer's 18:23.05 in the 1,650 free, good for third place.
Anna Lyn tallied up fourth place in the 200 free with a time of 1:58.23.
In both the 100 and 200 fly, Liz Gallagher took fifth place with times of 59.98 and 2:16.33, respectively. The Garnet earned another fifth-place finish in the 50 free when Sayaka Vaules returned to the wall in 25.26 seconds.
Lyn swam the 100 free in 55.37 for fifth place as well.
Freshman Alex Comaniciu cracked the top five in the 200 back with a time of 2:12.76.
Kloetzer earned her a fifth place recognition in the 500 free with a time of 5:20.86.
Swarthmore resumes Centennial Conference dual meet action on Feb. 1 at home against Gettysburg College.
