Field Hockey Drops Conference Game to Washington

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Swarthmore College Field Hockey dropped a Centennial Conference game to Washington College (Md.) at Roy Kirby Jr Stadium on Tuesday night. The Garnet fell to the Shorewoman 2-0 in a defensive battle.
 
Washington opened the scoring with a goal from Grave Steele in the 19th minute.
 
Marion Carr gave the Garnet an opportunity late in the third as she took shot off of a Chelsea Semper penalty corner. Carr's shot was blocked forcing the Shorewoman to clear the ball right before the end of the period.
 
Swarthmore was unable to capitalize on ten penalty corners, including two to enter the fourth period. The Garnet held the advantage on penalty corners ten to three.
 
The Garnet forced Kayla Zapcic to make three saves on nine shots. Carr recorded three shots, while Andie Tappenden and Samantha Meacock each had a shot on goal. Heide Van Voorhis, Samie Martin, Martina Kampel and Quinn Basewitz would all record a shot for Swarthmore.
 
Aron Lankford recorded four saves as she saw six shots on goal.
 
Swarthmore falls to 4-7 and 1-4 in conference play. The Garnet will have some time off before they return to the field on October 16th as they host Bryn Mawr at 7:30 pm.
