Johns Hopkins Blanks Swarthmore, 2-0

Younker, Maclean Score for the Blue Jays

The Basics
• Score: Johns Hopkins-2, Swarthmore-0
• Records: JHU (8-3-1, 3-2-0 CC) • SC (6-5-1, 2-2-1 CC)
• Location: Baltimore, MD • Homewood Field
• The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins men's soccer team scored a pair of goals in a five-minute span to shutout visiting Swarthmore, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon.

How it Happened
• Sophomore Liam Creedon had a free kick in a spot not far from where he scored on Monday night and he nearly repeated the feat. In the 23rd minute, he struck from 25 yards out but a leaping Oliver Steinglass knocked it over the crossbar.
• Ten minutes later, after a nice give-and-go, senior Griffin Cyphers ripped a shot from 20 yards out but Steinglass made a diving save to keep the Blue Jays off the board.
• Hopkins finally got on the board in the 63rd minute with junior Achim Younker's second goal in as many games. Creedon played a long ball over the defense to sophomore Alejandro Maclean on the right side. Maclean cut back on his defender, dribbled into toward the six-yard box and crossed the ball. Younker ran onto it and poked the ball into the open net with his left foot.
• Less than five minutes later, Maclean was on the receiving end as he pushed the Blue Jays' lead to two. Creedon collected a loose ball, dribbled about 10 yards and then played a through ball to Maclean. He took two touches inside the box and slotted a low hard shot inside the left post from 10 yards out.
• Freshman Herson Morales nearly made it a three-goal game in the 79th minute when he chipped a shot over a charging Steinglass. His shot just nicked the crossbar however and the Garnet keeper was able to collect the rebound.

What it Means
