Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

No. 25 Women's Soccer Shuts Out Berks

SWARTHMORE, Pa.—No. 25 Swarthmore College Women's Soccer rolled past the Penn State Berks Nittany Lions 3-0 on Sunday afternoon, beating a team that has been undefeated in its conference since 2012 and has appeared in the NCAA Tournament six years in a row.

Swarthmore is now winners of its past five games and is out-scoring opponents 15-2 in that span.

Megan Ruoff tallied a goal and an assist in the win. Brittany Weiderhold scored her fourth goal of the season, and Lizzie King scored her first goal of the year.

Chantal Reyes and Nora Greer split the shutout, the team's third clean sheet of the year.

Swarthmore scored early on Sunday, netting a goal in the fifth minute. The Garnet have now scored a goal in the first six minutes of each of their past three games. Weiderhold got into position in the box unmarked, received a cross from Maddy Carens on the right side, settled the pass and finished with the right-footed shot.

The Garnet constantly challenged Berks, taking 22 total shots to Penn State's 10. Swarthmore's second tally came in the 67th minute. Ruoff slid a nice pass from the midfield to King's outside foot as she made a run towards goal. King connected with the right-footed shot for the goal and the 2-0 advantage.

With the game seemingly secured, Swarthmore played all of its eligible field players. The Garnet added one more goal for good measure with 63 seconds left in the game when Nicte Machado-Aco found Ruoff for the Garnet's third goal of the game.

Swarthmore hosts Dickinson College on Saturday at 1 p.m. for the first conference game of the year.
