LEBANON, Pa. – Led by a victory from senior
Alex Petrecca (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Warde), the Gettysburg College men's cross country team competed in its final non-championship meet of the season on Friday at the Lebanon Valley College Last Chance Run Fast Invitational, held at Union Canal Tunnel Park.
The Bullets placed second out of eight teams to finish with a team score of 65, placing behind East Stroudsburg (23), while four of the five runners who scored for Gettysburg, set new personal records (PR).
Today's race allowed runners from several teams the opportunity to post qualifying times.
Petrecca led the Bullets as he won the race out of 95 runners. He cruised the 8,000-meter course with a new PR of 26:02. His previous PR was 27:09 which he set last season at both the Gettysburg Invitational and the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional. Classmate
Mike Miller (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) was next to cross the finish line for the Orange and Blue, taking 11th in 26:48, which is now his new PR time.
Junior's
Sam Sheldon (Tully, N.Y./Tully) and
Aren Heitmann (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Ludlowe) followed for Gettysburg, placing 14th and 21st with new PR's in 26:52 and 27:21, respectively. Junior
Jonathan Gronke (Morris Plain, N.J./Morristown) rounded out the team scoring, placing 25th in 27:38.
Gettysburg competes at the Centennial Conference Championship on Oct. 27 at Haverford College. The men's race begins at noon.
