BETHLEHEM, Pa.—Swarthmore College Women's Cross Country finished in fifth place at the NCAA Regional Championship at Lehigh University on Saturday and had three runners take home All-Region honors.
The Garnet posted a score of 200 with the top four runners all finishing in the top-40 in scoring in the 6K championship. Swarthmore's average scoring time came out to be 22:49. The Garnet had competed at Lehigh earlier in the season at the Paul Short Run.
Swarthmore was consistent and through the first mile checkpoint and the second held onto fifth place.
Emma Novak, who represented Swarthmore as an All-Conference runner two weeks ago, added to her accolades by being the first to cross the finish line for Swarthmore, taking 21st overall with a time of 22:28.9. Novak clocked a 6:01.6/mile pace on the course. Senior Phoebe Whiteside joined Novak in the All-Region ranks with a 28th place finish and a time of 22:35.3. Taking 32nd overall with a time of 22:41.0 was sophomore Nora Blodgett. All three earned All-Region honors for the first time.
Sophomore Rose Teszler's time of 22:50.7 earned her 39 points for Swarthmore. Teszler was nearly three seconds faster on Saturday than her time on the course in October.
Taking fifth for Swarthmore was Ella Shenkar with 80 points and a time of 23:28.9. Shenkar improved by 18 seconds from her last time at Lehigh.
Sierra Sweeney, a junior, tabbed Swarthmore's sixth score with a time of 23:42.0, and freshman Tillie Ferguson rounded out Swarthmore's championship seven with a mark of 24:41.4.
