Levitt Breaks Garnet Hits Record In Sweep Of Devils

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Swarthmore College senior left fielder Charles Levitt reached 191 career hits on Saturday, breaking the school's all-time hits record to help keep his team's season alive with two wins over Dickinson.

Levitt broke Mike Waterhouse's record that was set in 2012.

Swarthmore (22-12, 9-8) sits in fifth place and has one more Centennial Conference regular season game this season against No. 21-ranked Johns Hopkins at Clothier Field on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. If the Garnet win and Muhlenberg loses to Dickinson on Sunday, Swarthmore will make the playoffs and have a chance to defend the conference title it won last season. If the Garnet lose or Muhlenberg wins, Swarthmore will miss the playoffs and finish in fifth place.

Game One: Swarthmore 16, Dickinson 4

The Garnet kept fans on the edge of their seats until pulling away with 12 runs in the final two innings.

Four Swarthmore players had three hits: juniors Holden Bridge, Cole Beeker and Jared Gillen as well as sophomore Michael Sepe. Levitt and freshman Luke Mutz had two. The team had 19 hits total.

Gillen had three RBIs while Beeker, Sepe, Mutz and senior Jackson Roberts all had two.

Junior Ryan Warm started and pitched four innings, and senior Ricky Conti came on in relief to pitch five. Both allowed two earned runs, but Conti picked up the win and improved to 4-2 on the year. With the win Conti tied Ed Greene '85 for the most pitching wins in Swarthmore history (17).

Game Two: Swarthmore 6, Dickinson 0

Swarthmore cruised to a win in Game 2 by scoring all six of its runs in the first five innings.

Freshman Zach Camp (three innings), senior Zach Gonzalez (one), and junior Sawyer Lake (five) combined for a four-hit shutout. Camp picked up the win and Lake struck out seven batters.

Beeker went 2-for-4 with three more RBIs. Gillen and Mutz each had two more hits as well.
