Reyes Claims Individual Title at Citrus Invite, JHU Ninth Overall

Junior Claims Third Tournament Title of the Season

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – Junior Dominick Reyes claimed the individual title at 165 pounds and two other Blue Jays placed in the top eight as Johns Hopkins wrapped up competition on the final day of the Citrus Invitational on Monday afternoon.  Johns Hopkins amassed 65 points and placed ninth in the 14-team tournament.

Third-ranked Augsburg rolled up 192 points to easily claim the team title.  NYU (169.5 points), seventh-ranked Baldwin Wallace (149.0), 21st-ranked John Carroll (123.5) and Ferrum (103.0) rounded out the top five in the team scoring.

Third Time's a Charm
Reyes, who is currently ranked 10th in the nation, had won all three of his matches on the first day of the tournament to advance to the semifinals, where he was matched with NYU's Cole Karam on Monday morning.  Reyes trailed 3-2 at the end of the first period, but worked an early escape in the second period and rode Karam out in the third to grab a point of riding time and secure a 4-3 win to advance to the title mach.

In the finals, Reyes drew John Carroll's Luke Reicosky.  After a scoreless first period, Reicosky started on the bottom and worked an escape midway through the period, but Reyes worked a late takedown and put Reicoscky right to his back to earn the win by fall just as the period was ending.

The tournament title is the third of the season for Reyes, who improves to 15-2 on the year.  He is the first Johns Hopkins wrestler to win three in-season tournament titles since Paul Bewak won three during the 2013-14 season.

Paul, Lorin Place in Top Eight
Sophomore Joe Paul (174) placed sixth overall in a full 32-man bracket as he went 1-2 on the final day.  Paul opened Monday's action with a 6-1 win over Cornell College's Wylie Allen to advance to the consolation semifinals.  He slipped to the fifth-place match with a 9-1 loss to Augsburg's Bentley Schwanebeck-Ostermann and suffered a 6-4 overtime loss to John Marsh of Cornell College in his final match of the tournament.

Freshman Brent Lorin (125) went 1-1 on Monday to earn a seventh-place showing.  He fell to John Carroll's Kyle Murray by fall in his first match and capped his 4-2 record in the tournament with a forfeit win over Tyler Crew of NYU in the seventh-place match.

Three Others Place
In addition to Reyes, Paul and Lorin, the Blue Jays had several other strong performances in the tournament and three other Blue Jays placed in the top half of their bracket:

• Sophomore Jared Osborne (149) placed 13th in a 27-man bracket as he went 4-2 overall.  He scored a pair of wins by decision on the second day of the tournament to secure his 13th-place showing.

• Sophomore Bradlee Lamontagne (157) went 3-3 overall and placed 15th in a strong 31-man bracket.  Two of his three wins came by fall and he topped Ferrum's Elijah Martin, 8-2, in his final match.

• Junior Hank Behaeghel (285) also went 3-3 in the tournament to place 15th among 28 entries at heavyweight. Two of his three wins also came by fall and he ended his run with an 8-2 decision of Keiser's Kyven Higgins.
