Third-Ranked Emory Downs Johns Hopkins, 8-1


The Basics

• The Short Story: Host and third-ranked Emory topped the 25th-ranked Johns Hopkins men's tennis team, 8-1, in non-conference action Sunday.
 
How it Happened
• The Eagles took all three doubles matches to grab an early 3-0 lead in the match. All three of Emory's doubles teams are ranked in the Atlantic South region.
• Hayden Cassone and Antonio Mora took the first point of the match with an 8-3 win over sophomore Vishnu Joshi and junior Vik Vasan at third. Jonathan Jemison and Adrien Bouchet, the number one doubles team in the nation, then beat juniors Joe Cartledge and Austin Gu, 8-3, at first. James Spaulding and Will Wanner wrapped up doubles play with an 8-4 win over seniors Colin Muraika and Scott Thygesen at second.
• Mora pushed Emory's lead to 4-0 when he beat Thygesen 6-2, 6-1 at third. Jemison, ranked third in the nation, then clinched the win with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Joshi at first. Spaulding followed with a 6-1, 6-4 win over junior Cody Kim at fifth.
• Cartledge grabbed a point for the Blue Jays when he rallied to beat Sahil Raina 3-6, 6-1, 1-0 (7) at sixth. Andrew Esses then beat junior Aaron Carey 6-0, 6-3 at fourth. Bouchet closed out the match with tight 7-6 (6), 7-5 win over Gu at second.
 
What it Means
• Hopkins falls to 1-8 all-time against Emory and has lost the last four meetings to the four-time national champions.
 
Up Next
• Hopkins returns to action on Tuesday, April 2 as the Blue Jays travel to Gettysburg to take on the Bullets. The Centennial Conference contest is slated for a 4:00 pm start.
