Bullets Drop CC Finale at McDaniel

Green Terror top Gettysburg 5-2

WESTMINSTER, Md. – The Gettysburg College baseball team closed out the Centennial Conference regular season with a 5-2 loss at McDaniel College Sunday.

Gettysburg (16-20, 5-13 CC) was held to just four hits by McDaniel (12-22-1, 4-14 CC) starter Brad Thaxton, who tossed all nine innings. Two of those knocks came in the opening inning as junior Ryan LaCoe (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) stroked a one-out single before sophomore Sean Murphy (Westfield, Mass./Westfield) reached on an error by the shortstop. The two runners pulled off a double-steal and came around to score on a two-out single to center field by junior Ryan Augustus (Freehold, N.J./Princeton Day School).

The visitors were held to a pair of singles over the final eight innings. Thaxton retired 13 consecutive batters before a two-out walk to Murphy in the eighth. The walk pushed the Gettysburg sophomore's streak of reaching base safely (walk, HBP, hit) to 41 games.

Sophomore Myles Burbank (Rye, N.Y./Rye) cruised through the first four innings on the mound, allowing only one hit and keeping any Green Terror runners from reaching scoring position. That changed in the fifth when McDaniel put its first three batters on base and put up the runs. Two unearned runs came home in the sixth to set the final margin.

Burbank took the loss after going 5.2 innings and giving up five runs (three earned) on seven hits with one strikeout. Sophomore Sam Blanchard (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) threw 2.1 scoreless innings of relief for the Bullets.

Gettysburg closes the regular season with road trip to Juniata College on Monday at 3:30 p.m.
