HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Haverford College women's tennis team closed its week in South Carolina with a 7-2 win over Lake Forest on Friday evening, propelled by a combined 4-0 record from senior co-captains Emily Shutman and Clara Farrehi. That victory to close the trip reversed a 7-2 defeat from earlier in the morning against Rhodes.

Haverford opened up a 2-1 lead after doubles versus Lake Forest and carried that momentum into singles play by winning five of those six matches. Shutman teamed up with Lisette Pham at No. 2 doubles and they won by a convincing 8-2 score. The Shutman/Pham duo is now 5-1 this spring in the middle doubles match.

Farrehi teamed up with Sarah Evenson at No. 3 doubles in what ultimately broke the 1-1 deadlock in the team scoring. Farrehi and Evenson doubled up their opponents, 8-4, in the final match on court of doubles to finish their week in South Carolina with a 3-2 record together.

Moving into singles play, it was Emily Shutman's victory in a 10-point tiebreak that ultimately sealed the Fords' victory. Shutman was down a set after a hard-fought 6-4 opener. Nevertheless, she dominated the second set by a 6-1 margin before taking the tiebreak in extra points, 11-9. Shutman is now 8-4 on the season in singles. Clara Farrehi was also down a set early, but she too came storming back with a 6-2 win during her second set at No. 4 singles. Playing the 10-point tiebreak, Farrehi allowed just three points to her opponent and improved her singles record to 7-3 this year.

Lisette Pham (No. 2), Isa Cossio (No. 3), and Anne Tobin (No. 5) were all straight-set winners at their respective spots in the lineup. Pham allowed just one game during the second to her opponent during her fourth victory of the year. Cossio improved to 5-1 this spring in singles play with a 6-2, 6-3 win. Tobin has now won back-to-back singles matches following her 6-2, 6-4 victory. Lake Forest's only point of singles came at No. 6 where Ananya Prakash won a tiebreak in the opening set, but was edged in extra points during her second set ahead of a hard-fought tiebreak.

In the match against Rhodes, Haverford's No. 1 doubles team of Anne Tobin and Natalie Williams got the Fords on the scoreboard with a convincing 8-2 victory at the top of the lineup. That duo is now 4-2 together in spring duals. Prior to her tiebreak victory against Rhodes, Clara Farrehi was also victorious at No. 5 singles against Rhodes with a dominant 6-1, 6-1 victory.
