LANCASTER, Pa. – The Ursinus Indoor Men's Track & Field team continued its momentum with another standout showing, this time at Franklin & Marshall's Mini-Dip Invitational on Friday.
A pair of school records fell on the day as senior
Isaiah Battle topped his own weight throw record and classmate
Payton Stanziani established a new school record in the 600 meters, while blitzing the Centennial Conference record in the process. Ursinus earned six first place finishes in the event as well with five being individuals and the other coming in a relay race.
Battle bested his weight throw school record for the second time this season and placed first behind his mark of 58-3 ft. His throw is six feet clear of the second best throw for the event this season in the Centennial Conference, which came from senior
Tim Holzapfel tonight at 52-9 ft. It was a career best for Holzapfel and he finished third on the afternoon. Sophomore
Tom Wood placed 10th for the Bears after recording a throw of 43-4 ft. Battle was edged for the top spot in the shot put but nonetheless recorded a career best throw of 48-2.75 ft that was also the third best throw in the Centennial this indoor season. Pat Patterson-Zuber finished ninth with a throw of 42-1 ft.
Stanziani recorded a time of 1:21.56 in the 600 meters which set the mark for the Ursinus record books and topped the previous Centennial Conference record of 1:27.33 that was set by McDaniel's Alex Panagakos in 2017. Freshman
Liam Johnston led a 1-2 Bears finish in the 800 meters with junior
Tucker McGrath. Johnston edged McGrath by .34 seconds with his winning time of 1:58.30.
Senior
Daniel Tabor paced another 1-2 Bears finish in the 400 meters with his season best time of 50.98 and was followed by freshman
Aiden Tobin on his time of 52.41. Junior
Devon Greaves recorded a personal best time of 24.12 in the 200 meters and led the Bears in the race with a fifth place finish. Sophomores
Tyler Wilson and
Mason Jolivette rounded out the top-10 with times of 24.36 and 24.42, respectively.
Freshman
Cole Jackson highlighted the jumps for the Bears by placing first in the triple jump with a winning mark of 43-5.25. Jackson also earned a runner-up finish in the long jump with his mark of 20-7.75 ft. that was exactly one inch off the winning mark. Junior
Michael Agbeye placed sixth with a career best jump of 41-0.5 ft in the triple jump. A pair of freshman in Dave Piotrowski and
Markel Roberts-Jackson posted marks of 5-9 ft. to finish fourth and fifth on the day in the high jump.
Sophomore
Evan Mitchell led the Bears in the pole vault with a third place finish behind a career best mark of 13-5.5 ft. Classmate
Ken Komatsu placed fifth after clearing the bar at 12-11.5 ft.
The Ursinus "A" relay team of Tabor, Greaves, Tobin, and Stanziani led a trio of Bears relay teams and finished first overall in the 4x400 with a Centennial best time of 3:26.54.
Ursinus returns to action on Saturday, February 4th as they will host the Frank Colden Invitational, the final home meet of the indoor season, that will start at 8:45 a.m.
