SWARTHMORE, Pa.—Swarthmore College Women's Swimming became the first team to beat the No. 20 Ursinus College Bears in a dual meet since 2012, snapping the Bears' win streak in dual meets against Division III opponents at 70 meets.
Swarthmore was also the last team to deal Ursinus a loss, doing so on Dec. 8, 2012.
The depth of the Garnet proved to be too much for Ursinus to handle, and the Garnet won 156-106. The Garnet not only won both the 200 medley relay and the 400 free relay to bookend the meet but also finished first in seven events, second in nine events and third in 12 events.
Freshman Gaby Ma won two of those events and finished in third in another. She gave Swarthmore its first individual win of the day with a time of 1:07.41 in the 100 breaststroke. She outswam the field in the 200 breast as well, winning with a time of 2:29.45.
Saya Vaules darted to victory in the 50 free sprint (25.02 seconds).
Swarthmore won two more individual events the rest of the way. Sophomore Anna Lyn won the 500 free in 5:20.48. Classmate Liz Gallagher won the 100 fly with a time of 1:00.45.
The Garnet are now 4-0 to open the season. Swarthmore's next opponent is Washington College on the road on Nov. 16.
