Swarthmore Tops Johns Hopkins in Battle of Centennial Top Teams

The Basics
• Score: #14 Swarthmore-73, Johns Hopkins-55
• Records: JHU (14-8, 11-4 CC) • SC (19-3, 12-3 CC)
• Location: Swarthmore, PA • Tarble Pavilion
• The Short Story: In a battle of two teams tied atop the Centennial Conference standings and a rematch of last year's conference title game, it was 14th-ranked Swarthmore that came out on top with a 73-55 win over visiting Johns Hopkins.

How it Happened
• After trading buckets to open the game, Cam Wiley hit a pair of free throws to spark a 19-4 run that saw Swarthmore run out to a 21-7 lead. Five different players scored for the Garnet during the run, which was capped by a George Visconti layup at the 10:39-mark.
• Senior Daniel Vila got a bucket in the paint just 19 seconds later and the deficit was 12. The Garnet answered with a Ryan Ingram three and a Zac O'Dell layup to push the home team's lead to 26-9. Hopkins got back-to-back threes from junior Harry O'Neil, sandwiched around a Wiley free throw and the JHU was within 12 with 7:05 to play in the half.
• Leading by 13 just 75 seconds later, the Garnet put together a 6-0 spurt to push their lead to 19. The teams traded scoring possessions over the final three minutes and Swarthmore took an 18-point lead into the half.
• The Garnet came out of the break firing and pushed their lead to 26 by the 15:53-mark. Senior Noah Ralby ended the run with a bucket from downtown and ignited an 18-5 run by the Blue Jays that trimmed the deficit in half. It was a balanced attack as five different Blue Jays scored during the run, which was fueled by a trio of three-pointers.
• Wiley ended the run, and a seven-minute scoring drought for the Garnet, with a fast-break bucket at 6:22. He then hit one of two free throws, followed by a Visconti three and the lead was back to 19. Hopkins answered with a 9-3 spurt to pull back within 13 with 2:48 to play, but that's as close as the Blue Jays could get as Garnet outscored the Jays 7-2 down the stretch.
