Box Score CHESTERTOWN, Md.—A shorthanded No. 25 Swarthmore College Women's Tennis team fought off the Washington College Shorewomen 6-3 on Tuesday afternoon.
The Garnet, with just five available participants, defaulted sixth singles and third doubles but only conceded one other match the rest of the way.
The match the Garnet dropped was top doubles as freshmen Sonia Varma and Sophie Brown slipped 8-5. Freshmen Grace Dignazio and Christina Wang won in second doubles with an 8-0 sweep.
The Garnet had a pair of tough matches at the top of singles action. Varma claimed top singles in three sets 3-6, 6-4, 6-3, and Brown took care of second singles 6-2, 4-6, 7-5.
Wang and Dignazio got their second wins of the day by taking third singles 6-0, 6-1 and fourth singles 6-0, 6-3, respectively. Arya Jemal cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win in fifth singles.
Swarthmore improved to 8-4 on the year and 4-1 in Centennial action. The Garnet host Franklin & Marshall College on Saturday.
