Edmond Rushes for 159 Yards at Johns Hopkins

Blue Jays top Bullets 63-7

BALTIMORE, Md.  – Freshman Logan Edmond (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) posted the best rushing effort by a Gettysburg College (1-6, 1-5 CC) quarterback in four seasons, but it wasn't enough to spark the Bullets to victory as 10-time defending Centennial Conference champion Johns Hopkins University (5-2, 4-2 CC) posted a 63-7 decision at Homewood Field Friday night.

Game Summary
  • First Quarter: Johns Hopkins scored on each of its first two possessions with the second coming as the result of a blocked punt return. Gettysburg turned in its longest drive of the game later in the quarter highlighted by a 35-yard dash by Edmond. The Blue Jays held the Bullets out of the end zone despite facing first-and-goal and a high snap thwarted an attempted field goal attempt.
  • Second Quarter: Tammaro threw for two touchdowns and ran 69 yards for another score to push the lead to 35-0. The Bullets reached Johns Hopkins' territory late in the frame before an interception stopped the drive.
  • Third Quarter: The hosts posted their only score in the period on the opening drive. Gettysburg was poised for its first score of the day at the end of a 10-play drive, but Edmond slipped on a fourth-down dash to the goal and the visitors turned the ball over on downs.
  • Fourth Quarter: Johns Hopkins closed out its offensive output by scoring on its first two drives of the fourth quarter. Lynch ended a drive by the hosts with his second interception of the season and the Bullets quickly scored off the turnover as Schelling broke through the goal line for his first collegiate touchdown with 4:16 to play.

By the Numbers
  • Gettysburg posted a season high for rushing yards and out-gained Johns Hopkins 264-180 on the ground.
  • Edmond posted the best rushing total by a Gettysburg quarterback since Sam McDermott '16 dropped 183 on Bridgewater in 2015. It was his second 100-yard performance and over his last three outings, the first-year quarterback has totaled 381 rushing yards. On the season, Edmond's 546 rushing yards are the fourth-best total by any freshman in program history.
  • Mulcahy tied the sixth-best yardage output on kickoff returns with 152. It was the best total by a Bullet since Tommy LeNoir '14 logged 156 against Juniata in 2013. Current assistant coach Nick Ulassin '15 holds the Gettysburg record for kick return yardage with 213 against Johns Hopkins in 2011.
  • Senior punter Evan Tannenbaum (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) averaged 44.4 yards on eight punts with three eclipsing 50 yards. His longest of the game was a 57-yarder early in the third quarter.
