Sequeira Joins 1,000-Dig Club

Bullets fall to Haverford, Stevenson

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Senior Caroline Sequeira (Millington, N.J./Watchung Hills) became the 20th member of the 1,000-dig club at Gettysburg College, but the Bullets were unable to add to the celebration dropping a pair of 3-1 setbacks to Haverford College and Stevenson University Saturday afternoon inside Bream Gym.

Match Summary
Set 1: Gettysburg jumped out with the first four points and took a 10-4 advantage on a block by sophomore Ingrid Bayer (Falls Church, Va./Bishop O'Connell) and senior Sierra Conboy (Ventura, Calif/Ventura). The Fords rallied and eventually surged in front 20-16 following a series of hitting errors by the hosts. The Bullets came back with a four-point run and after falling behind again at 22-20, the squad picked up four-straight points. Horowitz polished off the win with a kill from Ellis.
Set 2: Haverford's defense dominated the second set with six team blocks. The Fords raced out to a 12-1 lead and jumped in front by 16 (21-5) on a kill by Lindsey Keener.
Set 3: Gettysburg bounced back in the third set to take a 10-7 lead on an ace. Haverford stormed back with seven of the next eight points to take a 14-11 advantage. The Bullets forced a tie with back-to-back blocks, but a 5-0 run put the Fords back in front for good.
Set 4: The final set featured 11 ties and six lead changes. Gettysburg looked poised for the win after running off a 9-2 run to take a 17-11 lead. The final point in the spurt featured Sequeira's 1,000th career dig and ended with a kill by Conboy. Haverford steadily chipped away at the lead and eventually pulled to 21-20. A kill by Kosyagin set the Fords on a match-clinching five-point run.

  • Gettysburg hit .036 as a team, while Haverford hit .204.
  • The Bullets tied a season high with eight team blocks. Haverford recorded 18 team blocks.
 
Join the Club
Sequeira is the first Gettysburg player to join the 1,000-dig club since Stephanie Blair '18 in 2017. Sequeira holds the third-best dig average in program history at 3.94. She trails only Steph Vial '07 (4.72) and Kristin Kotewicz '10 (4.45) in digs per set at Gettysburg.
 
Where the Series Stands Now
Gettysburg holds a 25-14 lead in the all-time series with Haverford. The Bullets had won the previous two meetings.

Match Summary
Set 1: Gettysburg hit .323 and racked up 14 kills on the way to a win in the opening set. The Bullets led most of the way and jumped in front 19-15 on an ace. Kuba-McCoy accounted for half of Gettysburg's final four points with kills.  
Set 2: Stevenson opened the second set with a 4-1 lead, but the Mustangs couldn't shake the Bullets. Trailing 17-13, the hosts ran off the next six points to surge in front 19-17. Gettysburg remained in front 22-21 on a kill by Ellis, but Gest came back with a kill to set up a set-clinching 4-0 run.
Set 3: Gettysburg led 6-1. Stevenson reversed the trend midway through the match with a six-point run to take a 15-9 lead. The Bullets sliced the deficit down to two (20-18), but Gest came through again with three-straight kills.
Set 4: The fourth set played out in similar fashion to the third with the Bullets taking the initial lead only to see the Mustangs rally past. Trailing 13-12, Stevenson ran off five-straight points, including Leftridge's 1,000th career kill, to jump in front. Back-to-back aces by Horowitz cut the margin to 24-22, but Leftridge capped the victory with her match-high 19th kill.
 
By the Numbers
  • Gettysburg led in hitting percentage .227 to .223.
  • Both teams racked up nine aces and seven team blocks.
  • Stevenson is one just three Division III teams with an undefeated record (Johns Hopkins, 20-0; Tufts, 16-0).
 
Where the Series Stands Now
Stevenson improved to 3-2 against Gettysburg. Saturday marked the first meeting between the two programs since 2014.
